Canticle of the Gift

O what a gift, what a wonderful gift;
Who can tell the wonders of the Lord?
Let us open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts;
It is Christ the Lord, it is He!

In the stillness of the night,
When the world was asleep,
The Lord made His message known.
It was then that His word came down from on high,
From the Father’s royal throne;
Christ our Lord and our King!

O what a gift, what a wonderful gift;
Who can tell the wonders of the Lord?
Let us open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts;
It is Christ the Lord, it is He!

His mighty Word cuts quick and clean
Far sharper than a two-edged sword.
Open your eyes, your ears, and your hearts,
And hear the Word of the Lord:
Christ our Lord and our King!

O what a gift, what a wonderful gift;
Who can tell the wonders of the Lord?
Let us open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts;
It is Christ the Lord, it is He!

He came to his people, the chosen race,
That his Father’s will would be known;
Lion of Judah, Light of the World,
Our Redeemer came to his own:
Christ our Lord and our King!

O what a gift, what a wonderful gift;
Who can tell the wonders of the Lord?
Let us open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts;
It is Christ the Lord, it is He!

He lived here among us, he worked here among us,
Morning, night and day;
Showed us his glory, gave us a promise,
And then we turned away;
Christ our Lord and our King!

O what a gift, what a wonderful gift;
Who can tell the wonders of the Lord?
Let us open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts;
It is Christ the Lord, it is He!

At the Passover meal on the night before he died,
He lifted up his eyes and prayed
Then he broke the bread, then he shared the wine
The gift that God had made:
Christ our Lord and our King!

O what a gift, what a wonderful gift;
Who can tell the wonders of the Lord?
Let us open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts;
It is Christ the Lord, it is He!

On the hill of Calvary, the world held its breath;
And there for the world to see,
The Father gave his Son, his very own Son
For the love of you and me:
Christ our Lord and our King!

O what a gift, what a wonderful gift;
Who can tell the wonders of the Lord?
Let us open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts;
It is Christ the Lord, it is He!

Early on that morning
when the guards were sleeping
The Father revealed his might;
Christ in his glory arose from the dead,
The Lord of Life and Light:
Christ our Lord and our King!

O what a gift, what a wonderful gift;
Who can tell the wonders of the Lord?
Let us open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts;
It is Christ the Lord, it is He!

On the road to Emmayus, the glory that is his;
The disciples could never see.
Then he broke the bread, then he shared the wine;
It is the Lord, it is he:
Christ our Lord and our King!

O what a gift, what a wonderful gift;
Who can tell the wonders of the Lord?
Let us open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts;
It is Christ the Lord, it is He!

Now look around you and open your eyes;
Remember the Spirit is here.
Here within his Church, his people are one.
Look, the Lord is near:
Christ our Lord and our King!

O what a gift, what a wonderful gift;
Who can tell the wonders of the Lord?
Let us open our eyes, our ears, and our hearts;
It is Christ the Lord, it is He!
